Catherine Nelson LL.B

Cathy was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1984. Cathy established her legal practice as Modbury in 1986 and has specialised in Family Law since early 1990.

She has considerable experience in achieving positive outcomes on behalf of her clients whether that is in property settlement matters or children’s issues.

She has particular expertise in complex children’s and property settlement matters and continues to act both in the Family Court and the Federal Circuit Court as an Independent Children’s Lawyer. She is one of a handful of lawyers in South Australia with this qualification.

She represents many clients with respect to complex property settlement matters and will initially try to achieve a negotiated settlement, if at all possible. However, if litigation is required she is very experienced in representing her clients in Court.

She also represents clients in Family Law Mediation Conferences held at the Legal Services Commission. The Legal Services Commission will often refer clients to her for representation on a grant of legal aid.

Cathy is a Platinum Member of the Law Society of South Australia and a Member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. She is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators since July 1992 and an AIFLAM Qualified Mediator.

She is currently a Board Member on the Legal Services Commission.


Linda Awkar LL.B

Linda holds a Degree and Bachelor of Law & Legal Practice and was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in 2004.

Since that time she has specialised in Family Law and became a Partner of Nelson & Co in 2010.

Linda provides expert advice regarding all family legal issues including complex financial cases.

Linda’s aim is to provide you with the most cost effective and timely resolution of your Family Law issues whilst achieving your best possible outcome.

She is very experienced in negotiating and assisting clients to reach agreement with respect to property settlement, spousal maintenance, children’s issues, de facto property settlement and child support matters.

She previously worked at the Child Support Agency and understands complex child support matters.

She also represents clients in Family Law Mediation Conferences both legally aided and privately funded.

The Legal Services Commission of South Australia often refers clients to Linda for representation.

Linda is a Member of the Law Society of South Australia and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of South Australia.
